She has worn Mouret to a hospital, a summit, a wedding and Wimbledon. Here is what she wore, what his clothes cost, and which pieces work in a courtroom.

Roland Mouret is a French designer, born in Lourdes in 1961. He is best known for the Galaxy dress, from his Spring 2006 collection. For this column, the better reason to look at him is the way the Princess of Wales has worn him since November.

The record is easy to check. Each item below comes from a published account of the day, and where an account gave no price, none is given here.

What she wore, and when

Nov. 18, 2025. A gray Mouret suit at the Future Workforce Summit at Salesforce Tower in London. The jacket has one button, peak lapels and slanted flap pockets. The trousers are wide and creased, with a slight flare. A fashion blog that follows her wardrobe reported that the cut matches Mouret suits sold in camel and burgundy, and that it expects the gray was a custom order. The same suit is listed in other colors, from £695 for the jacket and £450 for the trousers.

Jan. 8, 2026. A burgundy Mouret suit for an unannounced visit to Charing Cross Hospital to thank NHS staff, her first public outing of the year. The report names no style and no price.

June 2026. A beige bouclé Mouret midi dress at the wedding of Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling in Kemble, England. No price was reported.

July 11, 2026. A red Mouret Draped Peplum Midi Dress at the Wimbledon ladies' singles final. It is 100 percent wool with a V-neck and short sleeves, and it costs £795 on Mouret's UK site.

Two of the four were suits she wore to work events. Two were dresses she wore to public occasions.

The suits

The camel suit. One button, a peak lapel, slanted flap pockets and wide, creased trousers. A fashion blog that follows her wardrobe lists it as Mouret's cady, a structured fabric with some stretch. She has worn it at least three times: Sept. 21, 2023, to meet young people at the charity Streets of Growth in London; Oct. 15, 2025, to meet the Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Jordan at Windsor Castle; and May 6, 2026, at the University of East London for the launch of a Royal Foundation early childhood program. W Magazine noted the May wear as a rewear of the 2023 suit.

Whether you can buy it is not settled. The same blog believes the camel was made to order and never sold, and says the cut is offered in black, cream and burgundy. Another account reported that camel and burgundy versions were sold at Net-A-Porter and no longer are. Ask the house before you plan around it.

The light blue suit. The same silhouette in pale blue: one button, peak lapel, flap pockets and a wide trouser. [Confirm the style name, fabric, price and retailer.] Pale blue is a statement color, and a jury reads statements. It suits a closing day in summer better than a first week of trial. Camel is the safer color, and she has worn it to meet heads of state.

Three looks, and what they cost

Prices below were read from the Roland Mouret U.S. site on Nov. 7, 2026.

The V-neck wool crepe midi dress, $1,450. Long sleeves, a fitted waist with a thin matching belt, a hem at mid-calf, in burgundy. This is the one to wear to a courtroom, with a dark jacket if the room is cold. It is the same color as the suit on this month's Style page.

The midi dress with contrast collar, $1,200. Black, with a white collar and a ruffled peplum at the waist. [Confirm the style name and fabric with the house.] The collar and the peplum both draw the eye to the waist and the neckline. A juror will notice them. Save this one for the dinner after the verdict.

The bouclé midi skirt, $750, with the matching belted jacket. Navy, close through the shoulder and waist. [Confirm the jacket's name and price.] Bouclé is a textured wool, so ask how it feels after eight hours. Of the three, this is the closest to a suit, and it is the easiest to build a week of court clothes around.

The test for a trial lawyer

The three looks above follow the rules this column keeps recommending: a shoulder that sits where the shoulder is, a waist that is closed, sleeves that reach the wrist, a hem below the knee. The price is the cost of that fit. A dress at $1,450 is more than a good off-the-rack suit and less than a two-piece from The Row.

If you buy one piece, buy the one you will wear most often. For most trial lawyers that is the wool crepe dress or the jacket and skirt, not the dress with the collar.

What jurors respond to

I looked for research on what jurors like to see on a woman lawyer. It is thin and old, and none of it says a suit has to be dark.

In a 1995 Virginia Tech thesis by Lori Ann Cunningham, jurors in Montgomery County, Va., rated photos of one woman attorney in 11 outfits. Traditional color and silhouette rated most credible, and color influenced the ratings more than any other element. The page does not give the number of jurors.

Merrie Jo Pitera, writing about witnesses in The Jury Expert in 2012, advises women to avoid black suits. She cites academic research, without naming it, that people read traits from clothing color, and that black can read as aggressive or cold on a woman. She recommends beige, gray or blue. She also notes that designer clothes can make jurors feel a witness is unlike them. She was writing about witnesses, not lawyers.

Consultant Andrea Ward told a Connecticut bar program in 2007 to choose well-fitted clothes in subdued colors and to avoid bold ones.

My read is this. Fit the suit to the person. The suit should speak confidence, not shout an edgy design. I found no research that tests that, so it is my view and not a finding.

Designer of the Month

Starting this month, this page will feature one designer a month. Each one gets the same treatment: who the designer is, what a public figure has worn by that designer, what it costs, and what holds up in a courtroom. Roland Mouret is the first.

Prices for the three looks were read from the Roland Mouret U.S. site on Nov. 7, 2026. The prices for the Princess of Wales's clothes are the ones named in the sources below. [Photo credits and licenses to confirm before publication.] Nothing on this page is sponsored.
